Rain not an issue with BRIDEX visitors

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec 6: Rainy weather did not deter visitors from enjoying the BRIDEX 2013 Static aircraft exhibition held at the Rimba Airbase yesterday, which was finally opened to the public following two trade visitors days.

Several visitors were seen walking with and without umbrellas as they made their ways towards the aircrafts lined up at the exhibition area.

Some were also seen taking shelter at nearby tents waiting for the rain to dissipate while buying merchandise and talking to army personnel on site.

It was also the first time for Pg Bungsu Pg Damit, who was seen carrying his grandson Ak Qawiun Amin Pg Daud, to visit such display of aircrafts.

The 58-year-old retiree told The Brunei Times that such exhibition was something that seldom happened in the country and is an opportunity for them to learn about defence of other countries.

“If it did not rain, probably this exhibition will receive more visitors, so maybe more people will come tomorrow,” he said.

“Plus, this exhibition is held at the right time, it is the school holiday season and students have that opportunity to learn about things like these, and it could be a valuable lesson to them,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ak Muhd Harris Fardillah Pg Kamarulzaman, a student studying in a school at Menglait was quite impressed with the exhibition.

“This is the first time I see jet fighters from different countries lining up like this and I can tell you this is quite a wonderful sight,” he said.

His friend, Ak Muhd Abd Matin Pg Ibnoh who is studying at St George’s School also found the sight quite astounding.

“This helps in gathering experience to be a pilot and what I meant by that is that, this is the only time where you can feel it ‘live’ and not just staying at home reading about in books and televisions,” he said.
