KUCHING: The Boulevard Shopping Mall has stepped on board to be the official venue for the audition of the Bintang Lagu Klasik Iban 2012 competition on April 28.

Participants can register for the audition as early as 9am on that day, by using entry forms published in both The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo.

The competition is organised by Dayak Culture and Arts Promoters Association.

Its chairman Mervyn Tajem said the competition is open to all Malaysians aged 17 years and above.

“Bintang Lagu Iban Klasik boasts to be the first of its kind ever organised in Sarawak. The objective of this competition is to promote classic Iban songs, to promote the usage of Iban language and to unearth talents not only from the Iban community but also from other communities in Sarawak,” he said.

However, those who are considered artiste or have recorded commercial albums are not allowed to join.

The songs that will be sung during the audition stages must be from the year 2000 and earlier.

Those who come for the auditions are to bring their own minus one CD.

The use of guitar is allowed. Participants may also choose to sing without any accompanying music.

Those who make it to the semi-final and the grand final will be given a list of songs that they can choose from. Only songs from the prepared list are permitted.

The list of songs will be published in Utusan Borneo and at the competition blog page at http://pblki.blogspot.com.

The grand final will be held on May 25 to coincide with a pre-Gawai dinner and also the launching of the association.

Minister for Social Development Tan Sri William Mawan has been invited as the guest-of-honour for the event.

The entry fee for the competition is RM20.
